How is the test performed?
An echocardiogram is noninvasive and much like the ultrasound tests pregnant women receive. While you lie comfortably on an examination table, a highly trained cardiac sonographer places a small hand-held probe over various areas of your left chest. Throughout the exam, the technician records the information so that a cardiologist may review the images.

How long will the test take?
An echocardiogram takes approximately 20 minutes. The results of the test will be sent to your referring physician within 48 hours. In cases where the cardiologist finds critical information, your referring physician will be notified immediately.
